Designed by Helmut Jahn, The Hyatt Regency
Paris-Charles de Gaulle Receiving
Extensive Refurbishment
Paris-Charles de Gaulle, 7th June 2000... At the beginning of the new Millennium, the Hyatt Regency Paris-Charles de Gaulle started an important year long interior refurbishment program.

The hotel, conceived by the architect Helmut Jahn from Chicago, opened its doors in 1992. The design was inspired by aeronautical technology, conjuring up images of space and flight through the use of aluminum and glass.

The warm interior decoration was created by Hirsch Bedner & Associates from Atlanta, GA, USA. The interior design was a collaboration of many artists including the painters Colleen Sterling, Eduard Van Giel, Denis Rival and Todd Murphy; sculptors Evan Penny, Lisa Fedom, James Hull, Hans Verschoor, decorator Isabelle Melchior and glass sculptresses Nancy Mee and Ann Gardner.

Therefore, the hotel naturally requested Hirsch Bedner & Associates to redesign certain interior parts in harmony with the contemporary architecture of the hotel.
Three different parts of the hotel are currently under renovation:

The Hyatt Regency Paris - Charles de Gaulle:
Architect: Helmut Jahn.

Renewal of all guestrooms corridors

The hotel, which includes two four-story wings, has started a complete re-decoration of its eight guestroom corridors. They will be completely refurbished in shades of beige, creating a lighter and warmer atmosphere. The work will take place between June 5th and August 31st.

3 200m2 of wall will be covered, all ceilings repainted and 2 364 m2 of beige and gold carpet laid. Guestrooms doors will be sand-colored, frames and skirting-boards will be black and new glass sconces will be installed. These works represent a total amount of 4 000 000 FF. Fabric samples and design drawings are currently on display in the hotel.

A new carpet in each of the 388 rooms

More than 10 000 m2 of soft beige carpet will be laid in the 388 spacious rooms (including 11 suites). Since the start of the renovation last spring, more than 250 rooms have already been completed and the remainder will be done by the end of September.  The total cost of the new carpeting will be 2 500 000 FF.

Refurbishment and renovation of the mezzanine

The hotel offers two conference centers: the first is located on the ground level and gives access to the Convention rooms (the largest room can accommodate up to 400 people); the second conference center, including smaller meeting rooms, is located on the mezzanine level.

The foyer (455m2) has access to ten boardrooms flooded with natural light. The mezzanine offers balcony views of the spectacular atrium lobby (21m high), also overlooking the lively restaurant and bar area, surrounded by basins of water and exotic plants.

In responding to the needs of its seminar clientèle, the hotel has launched a renovation project costing 650 000 FF, which began with the laying of beautiful, deeply colored, wall-to-wall carpet, last April. Then, from Autumn 2000, the walls will be covered with light beige wallpaper and luxurious new sofas will enhance this space. The doors frames, columns and plinths will be repainted in the same warm tones.

These renovations are part of an important program which began in December 1999, with the refurbishment of the Regency Club Lounge (a private lounge accessible to 27 rooms and 11 suites). It was elegantly re-decorated with red velvet sofas and the floor was redone using black granite in the main area and new carpet on the upper level, at a cost of 350 000 FF.

Last January, the Salon Oxygène, 21st meeting room of the Hyatt Regency Paris-Charles de Gaulle, was officially opened. This glass structure is the extension of restaurant Café Mirage and caters for business lunches, dinners and receptions.  Oxygène is adaptable to any type of meeting, cocktail, lunch, wedding, etc.

Decorated in light tones, it is adorned with black and white photographs of legendary Jazz musicians and features a dramatic lighting installation of cascading lamps. Both rooms can be combined to offer space for up to 400 people with a pleasant view of the bamboo trees in the garden and the hotel terrace. This project was completed for 2 500 000 FF.

With a primary concern for high quality services and innovation, the Hyatt Regency Paris-Charles de Gaulle intends to complete these renovations during the next few months and to continue planning for the next stage of renovations to include the installation of secondary phone lines and cabling for high-speed internet access.
