John Morford Designing the Interiors for
Seoul, Korea's Park Hyatt
Spacious bathrooms will feature Hyatts new Oriental Bath concept
Hong Kong, January 2000... Bernd Chorengel, President of Hyatt International and Mong Kyu Chung, Chairman of Hyundai Development Company, have signed an agreement to manage the first Park Hyatt hotel in Seoul, Korea. The 265-room Park Hyatt Seoul is scheduled to open in 2002.

Located in Yeoksam-Dong, Kangnam-Ku, the new the business and financial area, Park Hyatt Seoul will occupy the top 16 floors of the impressive 45-storey I Tower, and will feature a new generation of hotel room design for the 21st century. Interiors are by internationally renowned Hongkong-based designer John Morford who also designed the award-winning Park Hyatt Tokyo, Grand Hyatt Seoul and the major renovations at Grand Hyatt Hongkong . All guestrooms at Park Hyatt Seoul are exceptionally large, averaging 60 square metres and with extra high ceilings. They feature a wall of windows, a 100% cotton-clad bed, an executive desk wired for high-speed modem data ports, a capacious credenza, interactive TV with internet access and on-line financial information, DVD player and a comfortable seating area.

Of his guestroom design, John Morford says, The emphasis is on comfort and convenience. The room should be a soothing refuge. The spacious bathrooms will be the first to feature Hyatts new Oriental Bath concept. The Oriental Bath in Park Hyatt Seoul is a circular area, encased in mosaic tiles and situated at the core of each room. The Oriental Bath encloses a circular glass and stainless steel deep soaking tub, and a shower area that provide a choice of showerheads-from overhead rain showers to neck-and-down sprays as well as a sink for in-shower shaving. Radiating off the Spa Bath are the other components of the Bathroom Ð a second, well-lit sink, generous vanity make-up table and chair, and a walk-in closet - all separated from the bedroom, by sliding doors.

Other accommodations include 25 Junior Suites, 26 Deluxe Suites, 6 Executive Suites and a Presidential Suite located on the upper floors.

Food and beverage outlets will include a sophisticated Brasserie serving a broad range of international food favorites featuring a variety of open display cooking venues. Guests who like their meals served with unobstructed views of the city of Seoul below, or the majestic mountains beyond, can sit in the splendor of the 42nd Floor signature restaurant with name recognition the world over. A Dessert Bar and a Cocktail Bar and nightly live entertainment will prominently feature in the open kitchen concept restaurant. On the ground level, a Delicatessen and Espresso Bar will offer coffee, tea, fresh-baked pastries or deli products, for consumption at the tables or for take-away. An elegant Bar will be the venue for live musical performances. 24-hour Room Service will also be available.

For meetings and banquets, a Grand Ballroom will seat over 500 people and a Conference Centre that can be configured in a number of ways, will accommodate up to 700 attendees. The flexible space may be used for the citys large and frequent social gatherings. A second Ballroom also seats 500 and can be subdivided for smaller functions. Other function rooms include a beautifully appointed Drawing Room with a baby grand piano and several Meeting Rooms of various sizes, equipped with state-of-the-art presentation support systems.

There will be a Business Centre, replete with five private meeting rooms, and all the business equipment, clerical help and telecommunications services required by New Millennium business travellers.

Hotel Guests as well as Club Members will find the entrance to Park Hyatt Seouls extraordinary Spa on the 43rd floor. This World-Class Spa and Beauty Centre will offer an unprecedented selection of both Western and Asian therapies Ð from passive massages, meditative disciplines and beauty treatments, and steam or sauna baths, to active exercise machines, aerobic classes and dance instructions. The 43rd Floor is given over to Exercise Machines, Gym and Aerobic Class Studios. An Olympic-sized Swimming Pool has been sunk into half of the 42nd Floor.
