 Sal Shahriar Named Partner and VP of Operations for
Hersha Hospitality Management Company

March 18, 2002 - Pennsylvania-based Hersha Hospitality Management Company has named Sal Shahriar as a partner and vice president of operations, responsible for day-to-day field operations at the 25 hotels owned and operated by the company in Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, and Georgia.

For the past six years, Shahriar has

served with Six Continents as senior director of field services for the northeast, with oversight for more than 600 hotels.  He has also held senior management positions with Winegardner & Hammons in Baltimore and B.F. Saul Company in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

While many hotel companies have cut back over the past six months, Hersha Hospitality Management has added properties, opening a 79-room Holiday Inn Express near the Midtown Tunnel in Long Island City in April of 2001 and a 110-room Doubletree at JFK Airport in January of 2002.  In addition, the company has three new locations under construction in Manhattan and is actively exploring sites in Washington and Boston.

Hersha Hospitality Management conducted $55 million in new development in 2001 and is making an additional $65 million investment in 2002.  It is part of The Hersha Group which includes Hersha Development Corporation, Hersha Construction Services, Hersha Interiors, and the Hersha Hospitality Trust, a real estate investment trust (REIT) that trades on the American Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol �HT.�
