Traditional Breakfast Making a Comeback;
Holiday Inn Hotels Adds Low-Carb Egg and Bacon
Breakfast Items In More Than 1,000
Properties Nationwide
January 7, 2004 - Beginning January 12, 2004, Holiday Inn(R) Hotels and Resorts will introduce two new offerings, called Low-Carb Inspirations(TM), to its award-winning "Best-4-Breakfast" menu. With an estimated one out of every four Americans participating in a low-carbohydrate diet, Holiday Inn is providing these travelers with an option to take advantage of the brand's famous service and menu without altering their diet or sacrificing satisfaction.

Guests will have a choice of The Complete Omelet, a three-egg, cheese and vegetable omelet served with Hormel(TM) bacon or sausage and a strawberry garnish (7g carbohydrates, 40g protein), or South of the Border, two made-to- order eggs accompanied by slices of grilled chicken, fresh avocado and salsa garnish (8g carbohydrates, 38g protein). Holiday Inn developed the Low-Carb Inspirations items in conjunction with a third-party culinary firm, M.D.T. Ltd., who formalized the recipes and performed the carbohydrate-and-protein analysis.

"As one of the world's largest providers of sit-down restaurants, Holiday Inn serves more than 25 million breakfasts annually and we've noticed a steady increase in guest requests for low-carb menu options," said Mark Snyder, senior vice president, brand management, Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts, North America. "While we've always offered healthy, low-fat, low-calorie and even low-carb menu alternatives, Holiday Inn wanted to be sensitive to the needs of people specifically following low-carb diets."

The Holiday Inn Best-4-Breakfast menu already offers guests the option of substituting Egg Beaters(TM) for eggs with any breakfast order at no extra charge. The menu also features various protein-rich breakfast choices including Steak & Eggs, the Ham & Swiss Omelet and the Bacon & Cheddar Omelet, which can be ordered without bread or potatoes to create a low-carbohydrate alternative.

"Now instead of ordering one of our Skillet Inspirations and asking to hold the potatoes, our low-carb-focused guests can order one of the Low Carb Inspirations items without feeling like they've sacrificed part of their meal," added Snyder.

The introduction of Low-Carb Inspirations follows on the heels of Holiday Inn's introduction of its new "Morning Matters(SM)" service standards. "Morning matters" service standards provide guests with a more efficient, relaxing start to their mornings with the added benefits of convenience and control, similar to the experience of breakfast at home. Some of the new service standards include an estimated service time upon a guest's order, coffee carafes delivered to each table and to-go cups provided before guests leave.

The full Holiday Inn Best-4-Breakfast menu includes other signature items like luscious Cinnamon Supreme French Toast(TM) and hearty Skillet Inspirations(TM) along with traditional fare such as bacon, made-to-order eggs, English muffins and fruit bowls. Plus, kids twelve and under always eat free at Holiday Inn hotels when dining from the Menu for Kids(R).

With more than 1,500 hotels worldwide, Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts is the most widely recognized lodging brand in the world.
