Feb. 21–Bucharest — The business milieu in Romania currently needs 200,000 people to be hired, but working in a state-run company is more attractive, says the head of the Employers' Federation of the Romanian Tourism (FPTR), Mohammad Murad.

"We are facing a major problem when it comes to the employers' area, namely we have no job-seekers. Today, in Romania we need at least 200,000 persons to be hired in the private milieu. The most attractive job for anybody looking for work is the state. This means a lot. It is a huge handicap as long as the state is more attractive than the business milieu. Why?! Because it is way easier there and many of them work less over there and have almost no responsibility. They don't suffer from a salary problem, because they (the salaries, ed. n.) are paid," on Wednesday said Mohammad Murad in a news conference.

He specified that he has never understood why the salaries in a state-run company are higher than in a private one.

"The salaries of those who work are smaller than the salaries of the state employees. We don't have workers. Tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, the seaside season opens and I'm honestly telling you there are hotel units with no staff and no possibility to open. Some say we don't pay properly. That's wrong. We do pay as much as we can afford so we won't operate at a loss. Lucrativeness in tourism is somewhere at 5pct per year. One needs 20 years to recover their investment," the FPTR president explained.
