Shanghai, China, 25 May 2017 – One of the most anticipated hotel openings this spring, Meliá Shanghai Hongqiao makes its debut as the brand’s flagship property in China. Located just minutes from Shanghai’s National Exhibition & Convention Center, the luxury urban hotel is Meliá Hotels International’s third in China, following Gran Meliá Xian and Meliá Jinan.

The modern property features 187 rooms with high ceilings and fabric-lined walls, juxtaposed with marble and walnut wood. The design merges contemporary décor with accents of oriental art. It is also home to Merkado, a dual Mediterranean-Pan Asian dining experience helmed by award-winning Chef Abel Lopez Reina.

YHI Spa, Meliá’s signature wellness sanctuary, promises to pamper, boasting Shanghai’s first and only Aqua Healing and Chakra Vibration therapies. Spa products are carefully sourced from organic ingredients and essential oils; and in-room bath amenities are provided by luxury bath and body care specialist, Molton Brown.

“Every traveler deserves a truly uplifting experience, one that is truly personal and memorable – this is what we want our guests to feel the moment they walk through the door,” said Marko Janssen, General Manager of Meliá Shanghai Hongqiao. “Our service will focus on going beyond… paying attention to every detail for a personalized experience. Building on the legacy of the Meliá brand, we’re incredibly thrilled to bring to life our ethos of Spanish service to distinguish ourselves as the benchmark for hospitality in this city, and this country!”

By offering a service-centric experience and replete with Spanish hospitality, inspired cuisine and modern amenities, Meliá Shanghai Hongqiao is outfitted for today’s discerning travelers, whether for work or play.

THE LEVEL, the most exclusive and luxurious choice of Meliá Hotels & Resorts, offers guests privacy, coupled with intuitive, unobtrusive service at a mere arm’s reach. THE LEVEL Lounge has a dedicated reception, private room, curated library, and dining space, which opens onto a veranda.

On the eastern flank of the hotel are three Garden Villas that feature traditional Chinese design and touches, complemented by well-appointed amenities. Each three-bedroom villa is wrapped around its own garden and outdoor lounge, placing an emphasis on privacy. Villa guests can enjoy in-room check-in, limousine service, 24/7 butler service, and private chef dinners upon request.

“Opening this hotel property has been a labor of love,” added Mr. Janssen. “There has been so much passion put into every detail and our guests will feel the personal touches – this won’t be your run-of-the-mill experience.”

In 2017, Meliá Hotels International will maintain its robust momentum in China. The group will more than double its portfolio in the market by 2020, with the addition of five hotels.
