Dec. 22–CAIRNS, Australia — A mega hotel to be built in Cairns, Australia is to offer 7,500 rooms to gamblers from round the globe.

The Aquis Great Barrier Reef Resort is expected to be the largest hotel in the world, surpassing the current largest, the Izmailovo in Moscow, which also has 7,500 rooms but fewer facilities for guests.

The Aquis, described as a six-star resort with casino by its developers, will be located on a 314-hectare plot of land north of Cairns near the Great Barrier Reef in one of the hottest parts of coastal Australia.

Artists’ impressions on the project’s website show a seascape with numerous building complexes, plus the casino and a large aquarium.
