Commercial Lawyers Network has an advantage over collecting the debt on behalf of the hotel over a Collections Agency.  Debtors respond very quickly to a letter or phone call from an attorney.  Yet; they think of Collection Agencies in the same manner as they respect a Used Car Salesman. 

Another consideration for the hotel is that Commercial Lawyers Network is unlikely to violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  The hotel would be liable for a violation of this Act, if they hired a Collections Agency that violated this Act by using unscrupulous collection tactics. 

Collection problems at a hotel are not limited to tour operators.  There may be account receivables that are generated by any one account that has established “credit” with the hotel to be “billed” by the hotel after services have been rendered.  This may include banquet events, contract business with airline crews for hotel rooms, and corporate accounts who are on a “direct bill” basis for the hotel rooms that their employees use. 

Here is how the Commercial Lawyers Network program works.  First, the hotel is provided with an Information And Rate Sheet.  The most important feature of the Commercial Lawyers Network program is that they are hired by the hotel on a “contingency” basis, meaning that if they do not collect the debt, the hotel does not pay them anything.  In other words, Commercial Lawyers Network is “at risk” for their time and expense in trying to collect the debt on behalf of the hotel. 

Commercial Lawyers Network charges the hotel a collection fee when they are successful of: 
20% of the first $25,000 collected; and 18% of the excess collected over $25,000.  If Commercial Lawyers Network has to file an “uncontested” suit, they charge an additional 10% for a debtor in a metropolitan area. 

This pricing is for debts that are less than one year old for any amount of debt of $1,000 or more.  If the debt is between $500 to $1,000, or is a collection of a “judgment”, or the debt was previously handled by another collection agency who could not collect the debt, Commercial Lawyers Network charges 35% of what is collected.  Under $500, Commercial Lawyers Network charges 50% of what is collected.
