Keith Kefgen, kxk@hvs-intl.com is president of HVS Executive Search and is responsible for day to day operations of the firm. Mr. Kefgen supervises each client engagement and has more than ten years of experience in the field of hospitality executive search. Prior to founding HVS Executive Search, he was vice president in charge of the hotel division of a New York based search firm. Mr. Kefgen previously served as a member of the executive management team at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel and is a graduate of the Cornell University Hotel School.

Stephen Rushmore, sxr@hvs-intl.com, CRE, MAI, CHA is nationally recognized leader in the hospitality industry.  He is president of Hospitality Valuation Services, the world’s foremost hotel valuation and investment counseling organization, with offices in New York, San Francisco, Miami, London, Denver and Vancouver. A widely published author, Mr. Rushmore has written six textbooks and more than 250 articles on a variety of hotel and casino investment topics. He is a graduate of the Cornell University Hotel School.

The Methodology

Needs Analysis &  Job Description – A 48-hour process
Based on discussions with you, we define the job parameters and identify the professional and personal qualifications you require in an ideal candidate. A written job description is developed from the needs analysis and is used as our recruiting guideline.
Research & Identification – A two to four weeks process
A research plan is developed to identify the field of potential candidates. This plan uses our in-house research staff, ES Global Reach Software? and our extensive industry network. Targeted candidates are contacted and screened to ascertain interest and capability.
Assessment & Presentation – A one to four week process
In-depth interviews are conducted to assess work experience, management style, personal characteristics and other essential criteria. Resumes and interview summaries are presented to you, and meetings are scheduled with the candidates you selected.
Feedback & Offer – A one to Four week process
Feedback from all parties is reviewed to measure interest and determine a course of action. At your discretion, HVS may participate in employment negotiations with prospective executive. The terms of an agreement are defined and communicated.
Return-on-Investment – An ongoing process
To ensure your complete satisfaction, we monitor the performance of the chosen executive using our HVS pay-for-performance Model.

To meet this demand, HVS Executive Search offers the following Value-Added Services. Compensation design and surveys, advisory board services, employee opinion surveys and corporate culture studies.

  • Compensation Design & Surveys - HVS Executive Search assists our clients in designing and implementing compensation and incentive programs that reflect their corporate culture. Supporting our compensation consulting is the Hospitality Compensation Exchange (HCE). HCE surveys benefits information concerning the hotel, gaming and restaurant industries. Survey results are compiled and analyzed each year in an industry-specific HCE Annual Report. In addition to customized surveys, we offer HCE Select, a flexible database that allows you to generate reports targeted at your specific marketplace.
  • HVS Board Services - HVS Board Services was created to make client boards more effective. Our annual survey of hospitality industry companies reveals that 30% of board seats remain vacant. HVS Board Services specializes in recruiting outstanding individuals to fill board vacancies. Furthermore, we provide advisory services on corporate governance issues and executive compensation policies.
  • Employee Opinion Surveys & Corporate Culture Studies - HVS Executive Search maintains an employee opinion database that provides you with information on how your employees’ opinions compare with industry norms. Hospitality Compensation Exchange

The Hospitality Compensation Exchange (HCE) is the largest industry forum for the exchange of compensation and benefit information. Annual HCE surveys are conducted for the lodging, gaming and restaurant industries and encompass corporate and property-level positions. Furthermore, clients have access to more focused reports through HCE select and HCE custom.
 

HCE Annual Report  HCE Annual Reports contain an executive summary of the national HCE survey data. The data is categorized by suitable industry criteria. Lodging, Gaming and Restaurant Annual Reports are available for both corporate and property level positions. An HCE Annual Report is $350.
HCE Select  HCE Select generates criteria-specific reports based on data from the national survey. You can determine your own query parameters for an HCE Select Report. The HCE Select program allows for numerous parameters to be considered simultaneously. A typical HCE Select is $500-$1000.
HCE Custom  HCE Custom creates client-defined reports from newly-gathered data. HCE Custom gives you access to information not collected in the national HCE surveys. Custom surveys are designed to consider an unlimited number of parameters, positions and questions. It is specifically targeted to competitive properties. This ground-up approach results in fully customized report. A typical HCE Custom is $2,500-$10,000
Participating in the HCE  There is no charge to become a participant in the Hospitality Compensation Exchange. HCE participants are eligible to receive discounts on HCE services. As confidentiality is the cornerstone of our business, protecting the reputation and data integrity of the participants is of critical importance. To that end, we only provide results in aggregate format.
