Winegardner & Hammons
of Cincinnati, Ohio, received the distinguished award for the fourth consecutive
year. The company manages Marriott full-service hotels in Cincinnati and
Columbus, Ohio; Dallas, Texas; and Birmingham, Ala. Winegardner & Hammons
consistently demonstrates high guest satisfaction scores and was recognized
for its hotel opening efficiency.
First-time winner, John Q. Hammons Hotels of Springfield,
Mo., has Marriott hotels in Tuscon, Ariz.; and Madison, Wisc.; and Renaissance
hotels in St. Augustine, Fla.; Charlotte, N.C.; and Oklahoma City, Okla.
The franchisee was also recognized for high guest satisfaction scores.
Columbia Sussex was named �Developer of the Year�
for Marriott Hotels, Resorts and Suites. The company had three Marriott
hotel openings this year that include the Dallas Marriott Las Colinas,
the Anchorage Marriott, the Baton Rouge Marriott and the Renaissance Philadelphia
Airport. New additions to the company profile will include the San Antonio
Marriott, the Milwaukee Marriott and the Greensboro Marriott.
The �Developer of the Year� award for Renaissance
Hotels, Resorts and Suites went to John Q. Hammons, Inc., which opened
two hotels in Charlotte and Oklahoma City. The company will open the Renaissance
Dallas-Richardson in the near future.
�Best Product� for corporate-managed Marriott
hotels went to Host Marriott for the Tampa Waterside. This five-star, 700-room
property � Marriott�s official 2000th hotel � celebrated its grand opening
this past spring.
�Best Product� for Marriott franchised hotels
went to the MDM Hotel Group for the JW Marriott Hotel Miami, the first
franchised JW Marriott hotel in the world. The distinctive property was
noted for its creative interior design of public areas and meeting space,
which feature high quality marble and wood finishes. In addition, it was
praised for its adherence to surrounding architecture.
Concord Hospitality received �Best Product� honors
for Renaissance hotels as its Renaissance Meadowlands Hotel was recognized
for its upgraded amenities, exceptional restaurant concept, spectacular
interior design and thorough representation of the new image of Renaissance.

1957
Roy E. Winegardner purchases his first Holiday Inn hotel
franchise in Lexington, Kentucky.
1958
John Q. Hammons joins Roy E. Winegardner in founding
a private, independent hotel management company. They entered into a development
agreement with Holiday Inns, Inc. to develop Holiday Inns.
1961
Winegardner & Hammons corporate office is established
in Cincinnati, Ohio.
1966
Winegardner & Hammons is incorporated. By the end
of the 1960�s, the company has constructed almost three dozen Holiday Inn
hotels.
1968
John Q. Hammons establishes another hotel management
company in Springfield, Missouri. John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc.
1969
J. Erik Kamfjord is named Senior Vice President of Operations
for Winegardner & Hammons, Inc.
1974
Roy E. Winegardner is named Vice Chairman of the board
of Holiday Inns, Inc. He serves for 10 years as Chairman and CEO, helping
to shape the hospitality industry.
1978
J. Erik Kamfjord is named President and CEO of WHI. He
develops the business plan which still guides WHI today. In addition to
managing hotels for the company�s owners, WHI expands to manage properties
for third-party hotel owners and diversifies its portfolio to include other
brands.
1982
WHI begins providing accounting and financial services
for John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc.
1983
WHI enters into its first joint venture development with
a major financial institution as its partner.
1987
WHI is selected by major financial institutions to professionally
manage hotel properties under various brands during the depressed real
estate market of the late 80�s and early 90�s. WHI emerges as one of the
first franchises to be selected to grow the full service Marriott brand.
1996
WHI opens its first full-service Marriott hotel, the
Cincinnati Marriott Northeast. The success of this venture leads to the
continued development of new construction of upscale, full-service hotels.
2000
Leadership changes are announced for Winegardner &
Hammons, Inc. John Q. Hammons becomes vice chairman of WHI, with Roy E.
Winegardner remaining as vice chairman. J. Erik Kamfjord assumes the role
of chairman of the board while remaining as chief executive officer (CEO).
Keith Daub is named the president and chief operating officer (COO). Terry
Dammeyer assumes a larger role by accepting new hotel development responsibilities
and a title change to senior vice president development and construction.
Mike Conway is promoted to senior vice president marketing.
WHI�s portfolio includes more than 30 hotels, 50% of which
WHI have an ownership interest. In addition, accounting and financial services
are provided to more than 49 hotels owned by John Q. Hammons Hotels,
Inc. and affiliated entities. |
