Vancouver - June 15, 2000 - Mr. Tao Zhou has
been appointed to the position of Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
(COO) of Listel Canada Limited.
Listel Canadas holdings include numerous highly successful hotel and
restaurant operations - Listel Vancouver, Listel Whistler Hotel, the Bear
Foot Bistro and ODouls Restaurant & Bar. Listel Canada is also
involved in retail and wholesale travel, numerous Pacific Rim multicultural
initiatives as well as a growing hospitality management division.
Mr. Zhou joined Listel Canada in 1990 after almost 10 years engaged
in post-graduate studies beginning in his birthplace Shanghai and proceeding
to Keio University in Tokyo where he received a dissertation fellowship
from the Japan Foundation focusing on Japans political and economic history.
Mr. Zhou was appointed to the position of Director for Listel Canada
in 1996. Fluent in five (5) languages, Mr. Zhou has enjoyed great success
in the international community, having participated in a number of Team
Canada missions led by Prime Minister Jean Chretien. His focus as Vice
President and COO will be on expanding the companys hotel and restaurant
management division and increasing brand awareness for Listel.
Vancouver - Effective December 1, 1999 Listel Vancouver
(formerly ODouls Hotel) became the newest member of Sterling Hotels &
Resorts, a distinguished collection of more than 120 of the worlds most
distinctive hotels, all dedicated to upholding the highest standards of
quality and service.
As the old saying goes - you are only as good as the
company you keep - and we are proud to now be affiliated with such remarkable
hotels as The Little Nell in Aspen, the Biltmore in Phoenix and the Silverado
Resort in Napa Valley, stated John Nicholson, Listel Vancouvers General
Manager since 1993. We are very proud of the Four Diamond facilities and
service we have offered since our opening in May 1986 and we are passionate
about surpassing our previous standards, however high. As an elegant small
hotel, operating independently from the constraints of a chain environment
and with the blessings of our ownership, we have the good fortune of being
able to evolve as rapidly as our clients needs and tastes. We are convinced
that new ideas such as The Gallery Floors will guarantee our competitiveness
well into the millenium.
The
hotel completed a full redesign of almost half of its guestrooms in the
spring of this year. The Gallery Floors at Listel Vancouver curated by
the Buschlen Mowatt Galleries, is an original concept in the hospitality
industry. Each of the rooms on these two floors has been designed as an
individual gallery featuring original and limited edition works by artists
such as Bernard Cathelin, Z.Z. Wei, Helen Frankenthaler and Yehouda Chaki
amongst others. The rooms themselves epitomize comfort, chaise lounges
tucked into bay windows and traditional cherry wood furnishings all work
in concert to complete these rooms; the effect is attractive, comfortable
and unequivocally interesting.
The name of the hotels restaurant will continue to be
ODouls Restaurant & Bar. The room has been a Vancouver dining tradition
since the early 1960s when it opened as a popular café.
There are very few genuine Vancouver-ites unfamiliar with
ODouls Sunday brunch and, now, live Jazz weekends. The new décor
(since the complete renovation in 1996) is evocative of the days of discovery,
an old World twin-hemisphere map adorns the atrium ceiling and compass
roses help you get your bearings. The food is an exploration into the rich
flavours and bountiful harvest of this abundant coastline and the fertile
Fraser Valley delta. |
Listel Canada was incorporated in October 1987 and is a subsidiary of
the Listel Company Limited of Japan. The latter was established in 1966
and currently operate three (3) hotels in Japan, a ski resort, a tour and
travel company and a real estate division. |
