 Food Wine Magazine Announces the Best New Chefs 
in America for 2000
NEW YORK - April 4, 2000--Food Wine today announces the winners of the magazine�s thirteenth annual Best New Chefs Awards at a gala ceremony at Guastavino�s Restaurant, 409 East 59th Street (under the Queensboro Bridge) with Master of Ceremonies Kyle MacLachlan.  At the event, past award recipients including Scott Bryan (Veritas), Rocco DiSpirito (Union Pacific), Michael Romano (Union Square Caf) and Dan Silverman (Union Square Caf) will be on hand to serve their signature dishes. 

The Best New Chefs Awards for 2000 are sponsored by Audi of America and the Tuscan Estates of Ruffino.  This year�s ten Best New Chefs, selected from restaurants across the nation, are the most exciting young culinary talents in the country today. Chosen by the editors of Food Wine from an exhaustive research process of tastings and interviews with prominent restaurant reviewers, food writers, industry professionals and chefs nationwide, The Best New Chefs in America for 2000 are:
 

  • Andrew Carmellini of Caf Boulud in New York, New York
  • Ted Cizma of Grace in Chicago, Illinois
  • Andrea Curto of Wish in Miami Beach, Florida
  • Loren Falsone and Eric Moshier of Empire in Providence, Rhode Island
  • Tim Goodell of Aubergine in Newport Beach, California
  • Michael Leviton of Lumire in West Newton, Massachusetts
  • Amanda Lydon of Truc in Boston, Massachusetts
  • Joseph Wrede of Joseph�s Table in Taos, New Mexico
  • Takashi Yagihashi of Tribute in Farmington Hills, Michigan

The Best New Chefs 2000 will cook together for the first time in June when they prepare a meal for 800 guests at the Food Wine Magazine Classic at Aspen. They will also be featured in the magazine�s July issue.  Many of today�s culinary superstars were first noticed by Food Wine and named to the roster of Best New Chefs.  Several of these chefs cite the award as a turning point in their careers.
