It is the second South Beach hotel to debut under the banner of The Coral Collection of Fine Hotels and Resorts.  Its sister hotel, the Essex House, reopened in 1998 and has already won acclaim for its expert restoration and the new service standards being introduced to South Beach by The Coral Collection.  The 71-room boutique hotel, located on the quiet corner of 14th Street and Ocean Drive, is an oasis of calm just a short walk from the center of South Beach�s pulsing nightlife scene.
 

The Historic WinterHaven Hotel

Designed in 1937 by Albert Anis and opened originally in 1939, the WinterHaven Hotel was regarded as lively, friendly, upscale - a place to be. Its complete renovation and restoration in 1999 maintains the magnificence and historic architectural significance of the hotel's elevated grand patio which commands a striking view of the beach and Ocean Drive activities at the quiet corner of 14th Street and Ocean Drive.  Art Deco preservationists hail the restored two story lobby, its mirrors and unique terrazzo floors. Likewise, the lobby's original staircase and railings, and stylish multi-level mezzanine overlooking the lobby have been restored to reflect an era by-gone. Today a tasteful restaurant and quiet bar complete the lobby's activities.

When the WinterHaven opened in 1939 it was advertised as an �ultra modern� hotel with �large outside rooms,� �a skytop solarium,� �spacious lobby and mezzanine,� �large veranda overlooking the ocean,� and �$1 per night� rates. The meticulous restoration has preserved everything except the $1 per night rates.
