WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Dec. 21, 1999 - Starwood Hotels Resorts
Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) announced today the promotion of Robert F.
Cotter, president of Starwood�s European Division, to President of International
Operations. Cotter will report to Brenda Barnes, Acting President and Chief
Operating Officer and will relocate from Brussels, Belgium to Starwood�s
worldwide headquarters in White Plains, NY.
Reporting directly to Cotter will be Osvaldo Librizzi, President, Latin America, Ted Teng, President, Asia Pacific and Sami Zoghbi, President, Africa, India and the Middle East. Replacing and also reporting to Cotter as President, Europe, is Roeland Vos, a 17-year Starwood/ITT Sheraton veteran who was promoted from Senior Vice President and Area Director for Italy-Malta. Including Cotter, these executives represent over 125 years of hotel industry experience. In Cotter�s newly created position, he will be responsible for all international operations, and will be heavily involved in shaping strategic direction for the company. �Bob�s 30 years of Starwood and ITT Sheraton experience in Europe, Asia/Pacific and North America will greatly enhance Starwood�s international leadership position and simplify the reporting structure within our corporate headquarters,� said Barry Sternlicht, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Starwood Hotels Resorts Worldwide, Inc. �This newly created position will ensure coordination and sharing of best practices at approximately 275 hotels outside North America and will allow Starwood to truly operate as a global enterprise. Bob will work very closely with Ted Darnall, President of North America Operations, to more effectively represent the global operational leadership of our over 700 hotels around the world.� Cotter was named President and Chief Operating Officer, Europe for Starwood Hotels Resorts Worldwide Inc.�s Hotel Group in March of 1998 and previously served as Senior Vice President, ITT Sheraton Corporation and President, Europe Division from 1994 to 1998. Previously, he served as Senior Vice President and President of ITT Sheraton�s Asia-Pacific Division, based in Hong Kong. Cotter joined ITT Sheraton in 1973 and held numerous sales and marketing positions in the U.S. and Asia before moving to Sheraton�s corporate headquarters as Director of Hotel Marketing in 1988. Before moving to Brussels, Cotter served as Executive Vice President, Director of Marketing and Product Management for the company. A native of Brockton, Mass., Cotter graduated from Boston College in 1973 with a B.A. degree in philosophy. He and his wife and three children will be relocating to the White Plains, NY area.
