| MAYNARD, Mass., Aug. 5, 1999 - The Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn.
has selected the SeaChange GuestServe Hotel System to deliver interactive
television services to over 3,000 guest rooms, including rooms at the affiliated
Inn at Opryland.
The hotel operator will leverage SeaChange International, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: SEAC) advanced digital video server platform on its existing in-house cable television network to enhance its guests’ experience with video-on-demand (VOD) movies, Internet access and PC games. Ranked among world’s ten largest hotel and convention centers, Opryland chose SeaChange for a turnkey solution that comprises market proven technology, content acquisition expertise, and experience in supporting expansive deployments of revenue-generating interactive television services.
When the GuestServe Hotel System installation is complete later this year, a wide selection of Hollywood hit movies will be available to guests on demand. The system will also provide reliable Internet access from each room via a high-speed network connection that delivers Microsoft’s Internet Explorer to the television. Additionally, a selection of high-quality PC games will include trivia, auto racing and action/adventure themes. Adding further convenience, the GuestServe Hotel System will allow Opryland to customize its free-to-guest television channel line-up to reflect the preferences of large groups of guests and to support convention activity. Opryland’s GuestServe Hotel System will conveniently incorporate amenities
including 24-hour room service ordering, account review, express checkout,
and customizable messaging to promote hotel events and local attractions.
SeaChange’s creative development team will design screens and menus for
a uniform appearance and simple navigation across all services. For turnkey
support of the interactive television opportunity, SeaChange’s licensing
experts will provide movies and PC games through the company’s relationships
with production studios.
The Windows NT-based GuestServe Hotel System frees Opryland from the burden of managing a cumbersome tape-based system that is limited to providing pay-per-view movies. The system incorporates technology and services used by SeaChange’s video- on-demand system for residential cable television.
