Choice Hotels "Room of the Future" Includes Panel Display Mounted on the Room Wall and a Desk Keyboard for Guest Internet Access

SILVER SPRING, Md., Aug. 5, 1999 - Choice Hotels International, Inc., (NYSE:CHH) today announced an exclusive agreement with GuesTech, a Baltimore-based Internet solutions company, to provide in-room Internet access through the SuiteLink Internet portal for hotel guests at the franchisors various hotel brands.

We expect to have at least 50,000 rooms of the future available in our hotels, said Charles A. Ledsinger, Jr., president and chief executive officer. Guests will be able to use their laptops or leave them at home and still access the Internet, including e-mail, shopping, travel, entertainment and news services. SuiteLink will offer many guests an opportunity to experience the many benefits of the Internet first-hand for the first time. He added, This revolutionary concept allows Choice to leverage technology to gain a competitive advantage, to generate new revenue streams and to eliminate the problem of tying up hotel phone systems with Internet access.

Using a state-of-the-art 15-inch panel display mounted on the room wall and a desk keyboard, SuiteLink offers the user high-speed Internet access through a T-1 connection and wireless modem that bypass the hotels PBX telephone system, thus giving guests a faster connection and allowing the hotel to use their PBX in a more profitable manner.

We are pleased to partner with Choice Hotels in launching this product in the hospitality industry to their brands and guests, said Craig Ziegler, GuesTech vice president of marketing. With our wireless/DSL connectivity, we offer an end-to-end Internet solution that will revolutionize the nature of a hotel guests experience.

SuiteLink will provide guests with connectivity over a high-speed system and offer the ability to access business software and applications, as well as Internet services such as America On-Line. Choice and GuesTech also are currently negotiating with major corporations to provide access for their employees to the corporate networks over SuiteLink.

Choice plans to install SuiteLink in rooms at four properties to unveil the system: the Comfort Inn Airport hotel in North Linthicum, Maryland; the Clarion hotel in Richardson, Texas; the Quality Suites Shady Grove hotel in Rockville, Maryland; and the Sleep Inn hotel in Rockville, Maryland.  Our research shows that the Internet will be a major factor in the lodging business in the next several years, said Daniel Rothfeld, Choice vice president of partner services. By forging a relationship with GuesTech to make SuiteLink our Internet solution now, we will begin to tap into the significant revenue potential the Internet offers while giving our guests a valuable and meaningful amenity.
