SAN FRANCISCO and MILL VALLEY, Calif., Aug. 24, 1999 - In August of 1999, a new luxury boutique hotel will open on San Francisco Bay in the charming town of Mill Valley. One of the first boutique hotels to be built in Marin County, the Acqua Hotel is a newly-constructed, fifty room hotel situated on the edge of the water with dramatic views of the Bay and majestic Mount Tamalpais. Designed by owner/architect, Ray Zambrono, and interior designer Marni Leis, the Acqua Hotel has been billed as “Pacific Rim” in style, and incorporates the aesthetic of the East with the comforts and services of the West. Inspired by the elements of sky and water, the Acqua (Italian for “water”) showcases a soothing simplicity punctuated by exotic touches and lavish comforts. Details such as faux mink throws, snakeskin ottomans, ostrich skin headboards, quilted stone silk and feather duvets create an ambiance that arouses the senses. The Acqua Hotel also features 1,700 square feet of meeting space, extensive waterfront grounds and a handsome second floor terrace. The Acqua Hotel is owned by Ramon Zambrano, Patience Moore, Domenico Petrone and Paolo Petrone. This same group are also primary owners of the popular Mill Valley Inn. This is their second joint hotel project. The hotel will by operated by Joie de Vivre Hospitality, San Francisco’s second largest and fastest growing boutique hotel company. Joie de Vivre also operates the Mill Valley Inn. Acqua Hotel is located at 555 Redwood Highway, Mill Valley, CA 94941. ![]() |
Nearly twelve years in development, the opening of Costanoa marked the final step in an innovative arrangement to preserve 4,000 acres of coastal wilderness, while providing outdoor adventurists with a new way to experience nature. Costanoa is the first luxury camp and lodge concept to be introduced in the continental United States. Located an hour’s drive from both San Jose and San Francisco, Costanoa is surrounded by thousands of acres of undeveloped wilderness, four state parks, and some of California’s most pristine coastline. Unique features of the camp include fully-furnished tent bungalows with shared “Comfort Stations” (camp bathrooms that feature indoor/outdoor showers with heated floors, saunas and a central courtyard and fireplace), a gourmet general store and deli, and one of the most extensive networks of hiking and biking trails in the Bay Area. The forty-room lodge is highlighted by stunning views, an outdoor hot tub, spa facilities, and generous meeting and special event spaces. Twelve traditional cabins adjacent to the lodge are also available. The lodge, cabins and tent bungalow interiors were created by Your Space (a SF-based interior design company), in conjunction with architects, Hill Glazier. ![]() |
