April 1999 - Adam's Mark Hotels & Resorts, un upscale
hotel chain, expands its presence in Indianapolis with a $25 million renovation
and expansion of the former 18 story Blue Cross/Blue Shield building, creating
the new Adam's Mark Indianapolis Downtown. The latest addition to the city
skyline is a suite hotel, a first for Adam's Mark. The hotel will provide
travelers and meeting planners with full-service accommodations, including
330 guest rooms, a two-story comprehensive health club, a sports bar, an
entertainment lounge and more than 20,000 square feet of meeting space
when it opens in May of 2000.
"Adam's Mark is incredibly fortunate to be a part of the downtown growth
of Indianapolis and contributing to the city's expansion as a destination
with two spectacular hotels," said Fred Kummer, founder, president and
CEO of Adam's Mark Hotels & Resorts.
The refurbishment makes Adam's Mark Indianapolis the focal point of
a concentrated downtown
revitalization effort by the city. Conveniently located one block from
both Monument Circle and the Capital Building, Adam's Mark Indianapolis
Downtown provides quick access to the Indiana Convention Center, as will
as many business, retail and entertainment venues throughout the downtown
area. Kevin Gallagher, formerly of the Adam's Mark Dallas, will preside
over the new Adam's Mark Indianapolis as the general manager.
"Adam's Mark Hotels & Resorts commitment to re-energize a significant
building in the heart of our Center City contributes to a more vibrant
and successful downtown," said Tamara Zahn, president of Indianapolis Downtown,
Inc.
Adam's Mark Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary of St. Louis-based HBE
Corporation, opened its first meeting hotel in Indianapolis in 1979, located
near the Indianapolis Airport and featuring 407 spacious guest rooms with
more than 32,000 square feet of meeting space. Adam's Mark Hotels &
Resorts has grown aggressively in the 1990s nearly tripling the number
