LONDON, Sept. 21, 1998 -  - The Banyan Tree Phuket has been named the world's top spa resort in the 1998 Readers Travel Awards of Condé Nast Traveller magazine.  The hotel received the award here on Sept. 15 in ceremonies at the Victoria and Albert Museum. 

Opened just four years ago, The Banyan Tree Phuket has already won the "best resort hotel" award from the Pacific Area Travel Association (PATA) two years in a row, as well as the British Airways "Tourism for Tomorrow" award for environmental conservation in a resort development. 

Banyan Tree Phuket is located on Bang Tao Bay on the northwestern coast of Phuket Island in tropical southern Thailand, a short drive from Phuket International Airport.  The resort offers 108 luxuriously appointed villas surrounded by lush tropical gardens, Asian "watercourts" and an 18-hole golf course, as well as one of the largest Oriental garden spas in Asia.  In an ambiance of sanctuary and peace, guests experience ancient techniques of healing and relaxation combinedwith the best of European rejuvenation therapies.

Banyan Tree Phuket is located at Bang Tao Bay on the north-western coast of Phuket island in Southern Thailand, 20 minutes drive from Phuket International Airport. The resort is part of Laguna Phuket, Asia's first integrated resort.
