OAKLAND, Calif. April 7, 1998 - KSL Recreation, owners and operators of La Quinta Resort Club, PGA WEST(TM) and the Doral Golf Resort and Spa, has purchased, through a subsidiary, the Oakland/Berkeley Hills Claremont Resort Spa from the Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Family Foundation, Henry Feldman, vice president and general manager of the Claremont announced today.

The renowned Claremont Resort and Spa in the San Francisco Bay Area first began operation as a hotel in 1915. Owned by the Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Family Foundation, the property has undergone numerous renovations and improvements over the past 10 years, including 40 new guest rooms and the addition of a state-of-the-art spa and fitness facility. The Foundation will use the proceeds of the sale to continue to fund its designated charities.

"We are very pleased that an organization with such a fine reputation as KSL will continue The Claremont's commitment to superior guest service," said Feldman. Scott Dalecio, a Bay Area native and life-long California resident, will become president of KSL Claremont Resort.

The celebrated 83-year-old Claremont Resort Spa is situated on 22 landscaped acres in the Oakland/Berkeley Hills overlooking the San Francisco Bay. In 1989, the hotel opened The Claremont Spa, nationally recognized for its health club facilities and beauty services.

KSL Recreation is a La Quinta, California-based owner and operator of the La Quinta Resort Club, PGA WEST, The Doral Golf Resort and Club, in Miami, Florida; Lake Lanier Islands, a family resort near Atlanta, Georgia; and the Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City, Michigan -- home of the famed Bear Championship Golf Course designed by Jack Nicklaus.
