EAST LANSING, Mich., April 1998—A new, improved version of the Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) program offered by the Educational Institute (EI) of the American Hotel & Motel Association will be introduced this April, Robert T. Foley, EI’s president and CEO, has announced.
Revisions to the program include a stronger focus on interactive activities, more opportunities for feedback from workshop instructors, and clearer, simpler pre-workshop preparation materials. The CHE workshop, offered over four-day period, allows instructors in hospitality programs to network with other educators as they discover new ways to add variety to their presentations, keep students’ attention with support media, enhance learning with interactive teaching methods, and improve classroom communication.
Foley also announced that high school instructors who teach a hospitality curriculum, such as the Educational Institute’s Lodging Operations Program (LOP), are now eligible to earn the CHE designation. Previously, the program had been open only to full-time and part-time instructors in post-secondary hospitality programs.
Workshops preparing educators for the CHE exam are offered throughout the world. This year, workshops will be held at U.S. sites including Tucson, Ariz.; New Orleans, La.; Miami, Fla.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Houston, Tex. Internationally, classes will be offered in Norway, South Africa, Switzerland, and India. Workshops continue to be added to the schedule. Call 517-372-8800, fax 517-372-5141, or email gglazer@ei-ahma.org for a current workshop schedule and CHE application.
Established in 1952 as a nonprofit educational foundation of AH&MA, the Educational Institute is the world’s largest hospitality communication resource center, providing quality training and educational materials for the hospitality industry.
