Hay Creek Hotels Enters Joint Venture Agreement with the Owners of Zero George Street,
the New
18-suite Boutique Hotel, in Charleston, South Carolina

WESTPORT, CT. October 16, 2012
- Hay Creek Hotels announced today that they have entered into a joint venture agreement with the owners of the new Zero George Street, Charleston’s first European-style boutique hotel.

“We’re thrilled to invest in the project and add Zero George to our expanding collection of upscale independent hotels” stated Norman MacLeod, Founder and CEO of Hay Creek Hotels. “The unique style and ambiance of the hotel and its outstanding location in Historic Charleston, dovetails perfectly with our other locations throughout the Northeast” “Hay Creek has a strong presence in New England and we are anticipating several new additions in the Mid-Atlantic States, in the next year”, MacLeod continued, “Zero George is a wonderful addition to our diverse portfolio of inns, hotels & resorts”.

Dean Andrews, developer and owner of the new Zero George hotel is also a Principal Partner of Hay Creek Hotels. “The combination of the historic buildings with a sophisticated, contemporary design is unique in Charleston” Andrews commented. “We believe it’s the right time to invest in such a vibrant and culturally diverse city as Charleston, with its balance of high-end leisure and business demand.  Teaming up with our Hay Creek Management Company was a natural step in the process, given the unique focus and depth of operating experience in boutique hotels”, Andrews added.  Zero George and Hay Creek Hotels have partnered with Charlestowne Hotels, for marketing and rooms yield management, as they are the regional industry leader in reservations and rooms marketing, representing eight properties in downtown Charleston.

The hotel’s name is derived from its address; number Zero George Street in Charleston’s historic Ansonborough neighborhood.  Zero George is established in five restored, historic residential buildings built in 1804, and surrounded by a classic landscaped courtyard.

Opening in November, Zero George will feature 18 well-appointed guest suites, featuring casually elegant French Romantic and Charleston Trade décor. Amenities include a chic café & bar, and indoor and outdoor private event space.

Designed with the sophisticated business and leisure traveler in mind, Zero George is a blend of historic architecture and modern conveniences. Working alongside Dufford Young Architects in Charleston and Alana’s Ltd. interior design in Charlottesville, V.A., Owners Dean and Lynn Easton Andrews have taken great care to restore and rehabilitate the space while embracing the history of the original buildings.

The 18 guest suites will feature stylish Ethan Allen residential furnishings; custom designed armoires with mini bars, and a spacious, European-style bathroom design with wood floors, marble and tile showers as well as marble countertops.  The restoration incorporates the original buildings’ classic architectural and decorative elements, including heart pine floors, private piazzas, high ceilings and period millwork details.  Unique amenities at Zero George include the Zero Café & Veranda Bar, which will feature a casual, bistro-style setting where guests can enjoy breakfast, and evening tapas style cuisine and a full bar. The Andrews have restored the original brick and stucco kitchen house, which will now feature a professional display kitchen with a French enamel cooking range for private cooking classes.

Special event spaces include the Garden Courtyard, featuring cast iron fountains and rows of Royal Palm trees. The main building’s Historic State Rooms, ideal for receptions, dinners or corporate meetings, can accommodate up to 75 guests.

Zero George enjoys a prime downtown location and is located within walking distance of many of the city’s most beloved attractions, including the shops and dining of East Bay Street, the Battery, City Market, and the Gaillard Performing Arts Center, which is home to the Spoleto Arts Festival and Charleston Symphony Orchestra and is currently undergoing a massive $140 million renovation.

Zero George Owner Dean Andrews has more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry. He is the former President of North American Operations for Orient-Express Hotels, and spent several years in Charleston overseeing the opening, development and operation of Charleston Place Hotel. Dean is now a Principal Partner with Hay Creek Hotels.  Owner Lynn Easton Andrews is a NYC media veteran who opened a high-end event planning business in 1998 —Easton Events—in Charlottesville, VA; Easton Events new office in Charleston will launch this month, located in Zero George.
