Hotel Set To Open In Guangzhous burgeoning Central Business District in 2007

Singapore., May 18, 2004 Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc (NYSE: HOT) and Guangzhou Cheng Jian Tian Yu Real Estate Development Company Limited, a subsidiary of Poly (Hong Kong) Investments Limited announced an agreement for Starwood to manage a 400-room hotel in Guangzhous emerging central business district.  Scheduled to open in 2007, The Westin Guangzhou hotel solidifies Starwoods position as the largest international operator of upscale hotels in China with 34 hotels open or under construction.

The hotel is located in Guangzhous burgeoning central business district, within five minutes walk from the Guangzhou East Train station (the major access point for commuters between Guangzhou and Hong Kong).  With its proximity to the CITIC Plaza Development, which houses the majority of the Fortune 500 companies in Guangzhou, the hotels location will provide it with an advantageous position in the market.  The hotel is part of a multi-purpose complex that houses the hotel in one tower and office space and luxury retail shops in another.  In addition to its 400 guest rooms, The Westin Guangzhou will feature 13,000 square feet of meeting and function space, four food and beverage outlets, a health club and spa and an indoor swimming pool.

We are very proud and honored that Guangzhou Cheng Jian Tian Yu Real Estate Development Company Limited has selected Westin for this much sought after development opportunity in a prime location that will become Guangzhous new central business district.  Westin is known as a highly innovative brand and has launched several firsts in the industry, including the groundbreaking Heavenly Bed®, an oasis of plush comfort so popular that youll want one for your own bedroom at home said Miguel Ko, President of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Asia Pacific.

Guangzhou is located in the center of the Pearl River Delta, one of the most economically dynamic and flourishing areas in China, approximately 182 kilometers from Hong Kong.  The capital city of Guangdong Province is also well served by air, land and water transport networks.  As the political, economic, scientific, educational and cultural center of Guangdong Province, Guangzhou is home to almost 30% of the Fortune 500 companies and received close to USD2.4 billion worth of foreign direct investment in 2004, an impressive growth of 64% over 2003.  With a 2,000 year history, Guangzhou is regarded as the City of Flowers of China and offers visitors extensive and varied sightseeing experiences - from thousand year-old temples to natural landscapes such as Mount Baiyun Scenic Belt and Conghua Hot Spring.

Chinas fast-growing travel sector, including business and leisure travel and the meetings industry, has raised the demand, from both national and international travelers, for upscale and international hotel products and services.  Following the successful opening of The Westin Shanghai in 2002, we are very proud to soon be able to introduce Westin and its many innovative and signature services and products to travelers visiting Beijing, Nanjing and Guangzhou in future, added Ko.

The Westin Guangzhou marks another major step in Starwood Hotels & Resorts fast-track expansion in China.  This is the fifth development in China signed by Starwood in just the first five months of 2005.   New developments signed earlier in the year include Sheraton hotels in Chongqing, Shanghai and Urumqi as well as a new Westin hotel in Nanjing.   The signing of The Westin Guangzhou also heralds the continued expansion of the upscale Westin Hotels & Resorts brand in China.   The Westin Guangzhou will join The Westin Shanghai, The Westin Beijing Financial Street and The Westin Nanjing as the fourth Westin hotel in mainland China.   The Westin Beijing Financial Street and The Westin Nanjing are slated to open in 2006 and 2009 respectively.

Westin Hotels & Resorts, with 122 hotels and resorts in 30 countries and territories, is owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.
