Gerold Held Appointed General Manager of the Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel, St.Petersburg, Russia

May 2005 - We are happy to announce the appointment of Gerold Held new General Manager of the Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel. 

Mr. Held was born in Germany in 1959, and graduated from the Catering and Hotel Management College, Heidelberg (Germany), with a certificate in Business Administration in 1986. From 1994 to 1995 he studied at Cornell University in the United States, and at the University of Applied Science, Switzerland from 2001 to 2003.  While there, he earned a Masters of Business Administration degree in Tourism Management.

Gerold has studied the specifics of the hotel business from different sides. In 1974 he started his career in the hospitality industry by working as a chef's apprentice at the Sternen Hotel in Germany; and from 1977 to 1979 he worked as a commis de cuisine at the Schwarzwaldhof Hotel.

In 1986 Mr. Held started to work for the Kempinski Company as an accountant at their hotel in Frankfurt. After one year he was promoted to the position of chief accountant where he worked until 1989, when he was appointed assistant corporate controller at the head office of the company in Frankfurt. Later Mr. Held was promoted to area controller, and was responsible for supervising the financial departments of four Kempinski hotels and three subsidiaries in Asia.

From 1992 to 1996 Gerold, held the position of financial controller of the Kempinski Hotel Budapest Rt., in Hungary. In 1995 he came to St. Petersburg as a member of the task force team to integrate the Grand Hotel Europe into Kempinski hotel network. And from 1996 to 1998 he worked as a Deputy to the General Manager at the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus in Budapest.

Having worked for the Kempinski Company for 12 years, in 1999 Mr. Held received a proposal to take the position of General Manager for the ArabellaSheraton Airport Hotel in Dusseldorf (Germany), where he stayed until 2002. He returned to Frankfurt in 2002 to take over as the General Manager of the ArabellaSheraton Congress Hotel, which is one of the largest convention hotels in this region of Germany.

A part from his work in the hotel industry, from 1993 to 1995 Mr. Held also taught at the College of Commerce, Catering and Tourism in Budapest. He is also an Honorary Judge for the Labour Court of Frankfurt/M.
