VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (January 18, 2005) -- Bob Zappatelli has
been promoted to general manager of The Founders Inn (www.foundersinn.com), a
240-guestroom property located in Virginia Beach. Ellen Sinclair,
vice president for Benchmark Hospitality International, which manages
the hotel, made the announcement, saying, "Bob has been a uniquely
valuable asset to Benchmark in the many roles that he has filled since
joining us in 1994. This is a well-deserved promotion." Previously Zappatelli served in the dual role of corporate director of food and beverage for Benchmark Hospitality, overseeing 27 properties, and also as director of operations for The Founders Inn. He originally joined the Inn as executive chef in 1999. Bob Zappatelli's professional experience with Benchmark spans nine years, including serving as executive chef and director of food & beverage for The Council House, an exclusive international conference center for SC Johnson, a Family Company, and Wingspread, a private conference center for the Johnson Foundation. Both properties are located in Racine, Wisconsin. As director of operations for The Founders Inn he was responsible for property-wide operations for the award-winning hotel. For a time, Mr. Zappatelli owned and operated his own restaurant, Zappas, located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is the recipient of numerous culinary gold medals and has been named "Chef of the Year" by the American Culinary Institute.
