ORLANDO, Fla., April 2004 - The Educational Institute of the American
Hotel & Lodging Association has announced this year's winners of its
awards for champions of hospitality training and education. The following
people and properties were honored during the Las Vegas International Hotel
& Restaurant Show, during ceremonies on Wednesday, April 14.
John J. Russell Jr., CHME, is the 2004 recipient of the Arthur Landstreet Award. Named after the Tennessee hotelier who founded the Educational Institute, the Arthur Landstreet award is presented to an individual who has made a lasting impact on the quality of education and training in the hospitality industry. Russell, the CEO of Hospitality Artists, LLC, and a past chairman of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, has given countless house to advance the professionalism of the hospitality industry. Since beginning his hotel career in 1974, he has served as chairman and CEO of Cendant's Hotel Division, vice chairman of Cendant's Travel Division, and president of Days Inn. He served two terms as president of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International and is a member of the HSMAI hall of fame. Russell is also a partner in the firm of Yesawich, Pepperdine, Brown, and Russell. EI presented five Lamp of Knowledge Awards this year. These awards are given to individuals and companies who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to advancing the quality of professionalism in the hospitality industry. This year's honorees are:
