MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (January 27, 2004) ---- Carlson Hotels Worldwide today announced that Dave Euson has been appointed to the newly created position of vice president of marketing planning and strategy.  In this role, he is responsible for developing and executing integrated marketing strategies and tactics in the Americas for all the company's brands, which include Regent International Hotels, Radisson Hotels & Resorts, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Country Inns & Suites By Carlson and Park Inn.  Euson reports to Yvonne La Penotiere, executive vice president of brand marketing for Carlson Hotels Worldwide.

"When we looked for candidates to fill this new role, it was essential to find a person who could serve as a strategic thought leader, a team motivator and capable of producing profitable growth in a highly competitive industry," said La Penotiere.  "Dave quickly rose to the top of our list when we learned that he could not only satisfy these requirements, but also bring a unique breadth and depth of experience to our organization.  His competencies in brand management, market research, quantitative analysis and relationship marketing will prove invaluable to Carlson Hotels.  We're very excited to welcome him to the team," added La Penotiere.

Euson brings more than 20 years of broad marketing experience to Carlson Hotels, encompassing corporate and agency positions in both mass and relationship marketing.  His classical marketing experience came from working with packaged consumer goods and restaurant brands, while database/relationship marketing expertise was derived from assisting clients in the financial services, agriculture, telecommunications and retail industries.  Most recently, Euson served as vice president of consumer solutions for Carlson Market While in this position, his team exceeded its budgeted sales the past two years by 39 percent and 23 percent respectively, and earned new business with such respected companies as Visa, Microsoft Network, Office Depot, BellSouth and Gateway.  In 1999, Euson's Merrill Lynch client team was named "Team of the Year" at Carlson, and as a result won a Carlson Fellow award, one of Carlson Companies' most prestigious honors.

Before joining Carlson Marketing Group, Euson was vice president of marketing at St. Paul, Minn.-based Ecolab, in which he developed and implemented marketing strategy that resulted in achieving his division's $100 million sales and profit goals.
As marketing director at Pepsico's KFC division, Euson led a cross-functional project team that introduced two new value-added products for the brand, resulting in a $10 million incremental profit in 1994.  Also, in an era of flat growth for the fast-food industry, he achieved record national growth for the brand in both 1990 and 1991.

In 1988, Euson was appointed marketing manager for General Mills' Big "G" division, in which he led an initiative to develop and launch new adult cereal products, including Total Raisin Bran, General Mills most successful adult cereal introduction in more than two decades, and Benefit Cereal, the first cereal proven to reduce cholesterol.

In other experience, Euson served in several management positions in the Gold Medal, Big "G" and Betty Crocker divisions of General Mills, as well as at Andersen Consulting.  He earned an M.B.A. degree from the University of Chicago, and a B.S. degree in Business Administration and Journalism from Iowa State University.
