February 23, 2004 - Superstar
Jackie Chan was conferred an Honorary Professorship at the School of Hotel
& Tourism Management (HTM) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
in January 2004.
In his capacity as the Hong Kong Tourism Ambassador, Jackie inaugurated School of Hotel and Tourism Management’s “Chair Professor’s Distinguished Lecture Series” last October by speaking to more than 1,000 Hong Kong PolyU students. “Everybody can be a tourism ambassador by smiling at visitors.”, he noted. By appointing Jackie as HTM’s Honorary Professor, Hong Kong PolyU will have his guidance in the area of student leadership development, guest lectures and advice for the School. A formal ceremony for the conferment took place in January as part of a major fund-raising event for Hong Kong PolyU, entitled “An Evening with Prof Jackie Chan”, which also included the Gala Premiere of Traces of a Dragon: Jackie Chan and His Lost Family, and a dinner with Jackie held at the InterContinental Hong Kong. A total of US$500,000 was raised for student scholarship and development. “Prof Jackie Chan did a great job in motivating our students by sharing his personal view of life, his way of striving for excellence and how we can work together in time of difficulty,” said Prof Kaye Chon, Chair Professor and Head of School of Hotel & Tourism Management. |
