Canouan Resorts Development Turning The Island
of Canouan Into a Major Destination Resort
.
February 9, 2004 - The island of Canouan is about to become big news with the grand opening of Raffles Resort Canouan Island in July, and the unveiling of TRUMP Island Villas later in the year. Canouan Resorts Development (CRD) has brought together a unique collaboration of high-profile partners to turn Canouan Island, one of the last undeveloped islands in the Caribbean, into a major, multi-faceted vacation destination.

When the resort redesign is complete, Raffles International Hotels and Resorts will manage the 156-room luxury resort formerly known as Carenage Bay, as well as Raffles' Amrita Spa and the new Trump International Golf Club at Raffles Resort Canouan Island, an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Jim Fazio. Donald J. Trump is spearheading the island's villa real estate development and will manage the Trump Club Privee Casino.

Mr. Antonio Saladino, Chairman of Canouan Resorts Development stated, "We have brought together the best in the industry to create one of the Caribbean's best luxury islands. With Raffles International, Donald J. Trump, and The Moorings all collaborating on this exciting project, I'm confident that Canouan Island is going to be the Caribbean's most sought after destination."

With a Grand Opening date of July 15, 2004, Raffles Resort Canouan Island will mark Raffles International's first venture in the Caribbean region. The brand's world renowned level of service and its unique brand of Asian hospitality will be reflected throughout the resort. Raffles Resort Canouan Island will join the company's exclusive collection of award-winning luxury hotels, including the flagship Raffles Hotel Singapore, Raffles L'Ermitage Beverly Hills and Le Montreux Palace, Montreux.

The resort is set on 300 acres of a 1,200 acre private estate surrounded by green hills, secluded white beaches and the Caribbean sea. Designed by the Italian architect Luigi Vietti, the resort's 156 accommodations -- a mix of one-bedrooms, suites and villas -- have breathtaking views of the sea. Special opening rates will start at $298 USD. A luxury catamaran will transport clients by sea from the airport, on a 15-minute sail through the brilliant coral reef. The resort will showcase four restaurants and bars, offering a range of fine dining, casual and beachfront-fare choices. Raffles International prides itself on offering exceptional food and dining experiences and its new island property will enforce this tradition with special signature delicacies such as a full champagne bar, degustation menus and Raffles' private-label caviar.

Raffles' signature Amrita Spa will feature specially designed indoor/outdoor treatment suites -- two of which will be set over the water and reached by boat. The other beachfront treatment suites will be located on the hillside and offer stunning views of the Caribbean. In total, the spa will cover 10,000 square feet. Spa treatments will be inspired by the resort's setting and the Eastern philosophies for which Amrita Spas are known.

Residential development will be another major component of Canouan Island. Donald J. Trump, who is known throughout the world for his luxury brand of real estate, will make his first venture into the Caribbean. TRUMP Island Villas will consist of luxury villas and estate properties set on 1,000 acres of lush mountainous terrain. The first phase will consist of 10 Golf Villas and 15 custom-designed Estates. Sales of the villas are scheduled to begin in the summer of 2004, with prices starting at $1 million USD for the Golf Villas and $2.7 million USD for the Estate properties. When all phases of the project are completed, Canouan Island will have a total of 30 Golf and Beach Villas, 18 Monte Carlo Villas, 20 Marina Villas and 67 Estate homes. Villa owners can take full advantage of the five-star amenities and services offered by Raffles, as well as have the option to place their homes in a rental program. In addition to real estate development, Trump will manage the resort's European-style casino, Trump Club Privee.

The Grenadines have long been considered one of the most pristine sailing grounds in the world and The Moorings, one of the top yacht charter companies, established a base on Canouan last year that has already become their third largest in the Caribbean.

American Airlines/American Eagle currently offers service to Canouan Island via San Juan, Puerto Rico four times per week, as well as four flights per week from Barbados. American Airlines services both Puerto Rico and Barbados from major gateways throughout North America.

Unspoiled and virtually undiscovered, Canouan Island is one of the most up and coming luxury destinations. Located in the heart of the Grenadines, less than 20 miles south of Mustique and 110 miles west of Barbados, the three square-mile island is surrounded by small bays and coves, secluded white sand beaches and one of the world's largest coral reefs, offering incredible diving and snorkeling.
