Econo Lodge Brand Offering $25,000 Incentive, Issued As a Forgivable Loan,
for New Exterior Renovations to New Franchisees that Convert their
non-Choice Property to Econo Lodge by Dec. 31, 2003
SILVER SPRING, Md. (Oct. 17, 2003) - Choice Hotels International, Inc.(NYSE:CHH) is featuring Nashville Hotelier Bimal Patel, chief executive officer of Sheenal Inc.,/Athena Companies also based in Nashville, in a nationwide print ad campaign for the Econo Lodge brand.

The campaign promotes a $25,000 incentive, issued as a forgivable loan, available for new exterior renovations to new franchisees that convert their non-Choice brand property to Econo Lodge by Dec. 31, 2003.  The ad begins appearing this week in national lodging trade publications.

For me, its all about relationships, said Patel, owner/operator of two Econo Lodge brand hotels in Mobile, Alabama and one in Cornersville, Tennessee. As franchisor of the Econo Lodge brand, Choice Hotels helps me connect with my customers through brand recognition and advertising. They also have a great support network and the kind of leadership that fosters good relations.  Of course, getting up to $25,000 in conversion incentives thats a great start to any relationship.

In addition to his Econo Lodge brand hotels, Patel owns and operates Comfort Inn brand hotels in Saraland, Alabama; Lima, Ohio; and Columbia, Tennessee and the Quality Inn & Suites Airport in Nashville, Tennessee.

In promoting this incentive, we thought it was important that developers hear from our franchisees directly, said Ron Burgett, Choice Hotels vice president, franchise sales and development.  Our sales team can expound on the benefits of being part of the Choice system, but hearing from someone just like them offers a much bigger impact and Bimal is a great example because of his strong support of the Choice brands.

Econo Lodge is one of eight brands franchised by Choice Hotels International.

There are more than 800 Econo Lodge brand hotels open or under development worldwide.  Brand signatures include the innovative Procter & Gamble Mr. Cleanâ Housekeeping Certification Program, participation in the EA$Y CHOICE guest rewards program, and the Econo Lodge Senior Room, designed specifically to accommodate guests 60 and older.  In 2002, Choice Hotels Central Reservations System (CRS) delivered more than 22 percent of the Econo Lodge brands net room revenue.*
