 The Caribbean Hotel Association�s Caribbean Marketplace
2003 Draws 1,286 Buyer and Supplier Delegates;
12% Increase in Buyer Registration
January 23, 2003 (SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico) � The Caribbean Hotel Association�s (CHA) Caribbean Marketplace 2003, held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from
January 19-22, 2003, drew a total of 1,286 buyer and supplier delegates.   The event, recognized as the most important tourism-marketing event of the year for
the Caribbean region, reflected a significant 12% increase in buyer registration, with a total of 395 buyer delegates representing 199 buyer companies from 25
countries around the world.

According to final registration figures, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany registered the most significant increases in buyers.   Compared to
the previous year, there were 12 more buyers from the United Kingdom (36 in 2003 versus 24 in 2002); 8 more buyers from the United States (83 in 2003 versus
75 in 2002); and 5 more buyer delegates from Germany (8 in 2003 compared to 3 in 2002).  �More qualified buyers means more business for the Caribbean
tourism industry,� said Alec Sanguinetti, director general and CEO of the Caribbean Hotel Association.

In addition to the business conducted, the event yielded an economic impact for San Juan, Puerto Rico of approximately 2,800 room nights at an average room
rate of $180.00 per night, or approximately $504,000 in hotel room charges.  Further, the 9% and 11% government room taxes  (for hotels without casinos and
hotels with casinos, respectively) translate into an additional $55,440 in revenue for the Puerto Rican government.

Caribbean Marketplace 2003 was hosted by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, the City of San Juan, the Puerto Rico Hotel & Tourism Association, and the
Puerto Rico Convention Bureau, with the support of Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel Magazine, Café Yaucono, Condé Nast Bridal Group, Courtyard by Marriott,
The New York Times, and Wyndham Resorts.

CHA member hotels and suppliers have the opportunity at Caribbean Marketplace to meet, discuss and contract for future business with more than 400 international buyers from around the world, in a business environment with pre-scheduled appointments.  Buyers - tour operators, wholesalers, corporate and incentive meeting planners, charter operators, incentive buyers, meeting planners, group buyers, and dive shop owners - are invited to attend Caribbean Marketplace based on their proven capability or potential to sell the Caribbean as a destination.
