CHICAGO - Oct. 3, 2002 - Hyatt Regency Monterey,
located just minutes from the Pacific Ocean and Carmel-by-the-Sea on 22
prime acres, has begun a $20 million renovation. The hotel is currently
undergoing soft goods renovations and is scheduled to begin major guest
room renovations mid year 2003.
Plans call for complete renovation of all 575 guest rooms including, new doors, carpet, wall coverings, bedspreads, lighting and furniture. In addition, new counter tops and tiles will be put in guest room bathrooms. Exterior renovations will include enhancing cosmetic appearance and providing new patio furniture. The President's House, a freestanding 4-unit suite with a private lanai and swimming pool, will undergo complete renovation. A new spa and health center will also be added to the hotel. Additionally, new furniture, carpet, artwork and lighting will be added to Peninsula, the hotel's signature restaurant. Knuckles, ranked the best sports bar in Monterey for three consecutive years, will also undergo extensive renovations. The upcoming project will compliment the recently completed $9 million renovation. The updates include the redesigned and expanded Spyglass promenade, overlooking the 17th green of Pebble Beach's world-class Del Monte Golf Course, recently ranked by Golf Digest as one of the top 5 courses in America over 100 years old. The expansion also included the construction of an 800 square foot outdoor fireplace and gazebo, as well as lighted covered walkways throughout the resort. The newly renovated 45,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor meeting space features high-speed internet and outdoor pre-function space with elevated gas heaters and retractable awnings. In addition, the newly designed ballroom with 16-foot ceilings is the largest ballroom south of San Francisco and north of Los Angeles. The ballroom area also provides breakout rooms, including patios for receptions and coffee breaks. Hyatt Regency Monterey now offers the largest hotel conference facility on the Monterey Peninsula. "We are excited about the improvements we will be able to offer our guests," said Michael Koffler, general manager, Hyatt Regency Monterey.
