Marriott Names Day Hospitality Groups SpringHill
Suites-Mall of Georgia the Opening Hotel of the
Year for 2001

ATLANTA - (July 2, 2002) At Marriotts annual General Manager Conference recently, the corporation named Atlanta-based Day Hospitality Groups SpringHill Suites-Mall of Georgia the Opening Hotel of the Year for 2001.

SpringHill Suites hotels nationwide competed for the award.  The Day Hospitality Group (DHG) property earned high marks for the training of its staff and the efficiency of the procedures employed during the opening process. Hotel General Manager Matt Crall accepted the award on behalf of DHG.

DHGs opening training process is top-notch, said Danielle Scott, Marriott Pre-Opening Manager, and that makes the company most deserving of this award. Good training reduces the number of days corporate managers spend at the franchise hotel bringing it up to Marriott standards and getting it ready to receive guests.

Tamara Markham, DHG Director of Training, took charge of the process.  She recruited an Opening Team of six company associates from key departments in hotels company-wide to organize the tasks and train the new employees.  Members represented the following areas: front desk, maintenance, housekeeping, operations and management.

Each Opening Team member is an expert in his or her field who also loves the job and wants to help new associates, said Tamara Markham.  Together, we trained new staff members efficiently and very effectively.  When Marriott came in to do testing, everyone was ready.  Our front desk staff earned the highest possible
certification scores.

At DHG, we created the in-house Director of Training position because we believe that good training is vital to our business, said President Fred Cerrone. Our investment has paid off by allowing us to do a better job of serving our guests and supporting our associates.

DHG hotels won several additional awards at the Marriott General Manager conference.  Named #1 in the brand in Maintenance & Overall Upkeep and #3 in Cleanliness Upon Entering the Room, SpringHill Suites-Alpharetta also won the Purple Passion Award for guest tracking scores above 91% for three quarters last year.

SpringHill Suites-Kennesaw brought home the Green Splash Award for guest tracking scores of over 91% in two quarters last year.  Fairfield Inn-Kennesaw captured both a Pineapple Award, recognizing the hotel for ranking #3 in the brand for overall guest comment scores for the year, and the Welcome Mat Roller, awarded
for the best increase in guest tracking scores for the year.
