Michael C. Shindler Named VP of Development for Rockresorts; Will Bolster the Stature of the Legenday Brand

May 14, 2002 - Rockresorts International LLC, a luxury resort hotel company with 11 distinctive resort hotels in seven states, today announced the appointment of Michael C. Shindler as vice president of development. In this role, Shindler will be responsible for identifying and negotiating the acquisition of company portfolios and individual hotels.
    
"Shindler's expertise in acquiring and developing luxury hotels is a perfect catalyst to the future growth of Rockresorts. We have our eye on a number of resort markets that we believe complement Rockresorts' growth strategy. By bringing in someone with Michael's experience and talents we are further underscoring our commitment to this growth," said Ed Mace, president of Vail Resorts Lodging Company and Rockresorts.
    
Shindler added, "I look forward to working with Ed and the entire Vail Resorts team in bolstering the legendary stature of a great resort brand. With the support of Vail Resorts and our Board of Directors and shareholders, we can be focused and opportunistic in the growth of Rockresorts."
    
Shindler brings to Rockresorts more than 25 years of experience in the legal, financial and administrative aspects of real estate and development, with a strong focus on hotel transactions. Most recently, Shindler served as vice president of development for the Americas at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group in its suburban Chicago office. There he was responsible for sourcing, analyzing and negotiating new transactions as the luxury hotel investment and management group expanded into the Western Hemisphere. Prior to that position, Shindler was executive vice president of The Plasencia Group, a multi-office hospitality consulting and transactional firm in its Chicago office from 1996-1999.
    
From 1986 to 1996, Shindler worked first for the Hyatt Development Corporation and then the Hyatt Hotels Corporation in Chicago, Ill., in various capacities, including vice president and general counsel of Hyatt Development Corporation and senior vice president of development for Hyatt Hotels Corporation. As senior vice president of development, Shindler managed the development department of Hyatt Hotels and was responsible for the acquisition, development and franchising of hotel properties in the Hyatt portfolio.  Shindler negotiated the acquisition of 15 Hyatt hotels and the management agreements for another 15 Hyatt hotels.
    
Shindler spent two years from 1984-1986 at The Balcor Company, a real estate investment firm in Skokie, Ill., and from 1976-1984, he specialized in commercial real estate while practicing in the Chicago law firm Katten, Muchin, Zavis, Pearl & Galler. Shindler received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and his law degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. Shindler and his wife, Andrea Gellin Shindler have a son, Adam (age 21) and a daughter, Carey (age 18).
