WOODSTOCK, Vt., June 2002 -- One of New Englands most elegant inns,
The Jackson House, a 15-room, AAA four-diamond country manor and fine dining
restaurant located in Woodstock, VT, recently unveiled a newly renovated
suite designed by Vermont artisans Charles Shackleton, a renowned furniture
maker, and Miranda Thomas, a master potter.
The new suite has been aptly renamed
the Shackleton-Thomas Suite. This husband and wife team is responsible
for creating elegant, handcrafted wood furniture and pottery respectively,
and they are quickly gaining international recognition for their exquisite
pieces. They own and operate Charles Shackleton Furniture and Miranda
Thomas Pottery from their Bridgewater, VT-based showroom and factory just
a short drive from the inn. The Jackson |

House is now the only inn in the country featuring the works of these two
artists.
The new Shackleton-Thomas Suite is the vision of Carl and Linda Delnegro,
owners of The Jackson House Inn, and Shackleton and Thomas, who began partnering
on the new project in early spring. The goal was to create an elegant,
warm and understated country inn guestroom that maintained the integrity
of the history of the inn while incorporating a modern, sophisticated feel
that would suit the demands of the inns upscale clientele. The end
result has transformed one of the inns six suites into a virtual showroom
for Shackleton and Thomas designs.
Upon entering, the feeling is light, airy and welcoming, with the eyes
focusing immediately on the highlight of the suite -- Shackletons handcrafted,
four-poster, cherry-wood bed draped in silk velvet sage panels. Complimenting
the bed are a matching cherry-wood armoire, chairs with turned arms and
bedside tables. Each of the pieces was hand shaped and assembled
by Shackleton and his staff and the outcome of each has a glowing, warm,
smooth finish. An array of Thomas pottery, which features freehand
decoration, unique glazes and classic forms, adorns the suite.
The Shackleton-Thomas Suite, a sensory and visual tour de force, is
made even more special by the fact that Charles Shackleton is an ancestor
of the famous explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton, whose story of plying the
waters of Antarctica in the early 1900s has been chronicled in books, and,
most recently in a documentary that aired on both NOVA and A&E.
Enlarged sepia-tone photographs of Shackletons adventures in Antarctica
along with books and write-ups of his excursions are featured in the suite,
as is a glossy 90-page catalog on the Shackleton-Thomas showroom, which
is available for guests to take home.
Guests will enjoy the inns fine-dining restaurant featuring the cuisine
of award-winning Chef Marty Holzberg and one of the finest wine lists in
Vermont. Shackletons pieces can be seen in the Jackson House dining
room as well, which features his chairs and a triple kitchen dresser with
glass doors, all done in cherry wood. Opening in fall 2002 will be
the new Spa at The Jackson House Inn highlighting two massage therapy rooms,
a yoga area, hot water spa and an array of exercise equipment.
The Jackson House Inn & Restaurant, a Vermont country manor, is
an intimate 15-room luxury property situated just outside of historic Woodstock.
Nine guestrooms and six suites are elegantly appointed with an array of
styles from French Provencal, Vermont country or Victorian and offer high-end
amenities, Anichini linens and fine bath products. All suites feature
working fireplaces and oversized Jacuzzi tubs. Guests are treated
to some of the finest cuisine in Vermont and an award-winning wine list
at the inns gourmet restaurant and can relax and unwind at the Jackson
House Spa featuring massage therapy, yoga and an array of fitness equipment.
The inn is just a short drive from a number of Vermonts premier attractions
offering skiing, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, antiquing and shopping. |
