Suites Hotel Newark/Wilmington South Wins Hilton's Spirit of Pride Award |
NEWARK/WILMINGTON, Del., June 18, 2002 Executive
Housekeeper Denise Blocker at the Embassy Suites Hotel Newark/Wilmington
South has won the Spirit of Pride Award, which was announced at a private
ceremony at the hotel. The award, which is presented quarterly by
Hilton Hotels Corporation, recognizes the individual efforts of outstanding
employees.
Blocker was recognized for her outstanding performance in generating employee morale and reducing employee turnover. In an effort to address the high turnover rate typical of many hotel housekeeping departments, Blocker initiated a unique benefit program, English as a Second Language courses. Employee response was extremely positive, and the innovative program recently produced its first 15 graduates. By shifting personnel, cross-training and pitching in herself, Blocker effectively overcame concerns about cost and potential productivity loss. "Giving selflessly of herself, Denise was able to institute a hugely successful, first of its kind program that has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on hotel morale," noted Greg Miller, PMHS President and COO. "Perhaps most amazing of all, not one single housekeeping service complaint was received by management during the entire schedule of 20, two-hour classes". Located at 654 College Avenue in Newark, Del., the Embassy Suites Hotel Newark/Wilmington South is owned by the Buccini/Pollin Group and managed by PM Hospitality Strategies (PMHS). PM Hospitality Strategies, an affiliate of The Buccini/Pollin Group, currently operates seven hotels and is overseeing the construction of three additional upscale hotels, all on the Eastern Seaboard. |
