Ted Axe Named New Vice President and General Manager 
of La Costa Resort and Spa

SAN DIEGO Nov. 16, 2001-- KSL Recreation Corp., owners and operators of a number of marquee resorts across the United States, announced today its acquisition of the renowned La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

La Costa Resort and Spa is legendary among spa aficionados as well as professional and amateur golfers and tennis players. The expansive 479 room resort, set on 400 rolling acres in the coastal foothills north of San Diego offers a full-service experience year round. La Costa is fully equipped with two 18-hole golf courses, an expansive spa and a top-level tennis center. For guests mixing business with pleasure, the resort offers excellent and extensive meeting, convention, and banquet facilities.

To oversee the renaissance of La Costa Resort and Spa, KSL has named Ted Axe to serve as the new vice president and general manager. Axe will make the transition from his current role as vice president and general manager of KSL's renowned Claremont Resort & Spa in Northern California to return to La Costa Resort and Spa where he served as director of operations from 1996 to 1998.

"We are excited to have Ted join the team at La Costa Resort and Spa as he brings a great deal of expertise and familiarity with him," Dalecio said. "Having formerly worked at the resort, Ted understands La Costa Resort and Spa's storied history as well as its positioning in the industry and local community. Ted will play an integral role in bringing back La Costa Resort and Spa's grandeur."

KSL's holdings are comprised of approximately 4,450 hotel rooms, more than 450,000 square feet of meeting space, over 400,000 square feet of spa and fitness facilities, 20 golf courses including designs by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Gary Player, Tom Weiskopf, Raymond Floyd, Jerry Pate and Pete Dye, over 95 tennis courts, 34 restaurants, 44 retail outlets and 10 clubhouses.
