  Kimpton Set to Open Hotel Monaco New Orleans;
Collaborates with Chef Susan Spicer
on Adjacent Restaurant

SAN FRANCISCO, May 7, 2001 The Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group, LLC, announces the opening of the Hotel Monaco New Orleans in August 2001.  Located in the heart of downtown along the famed St. Charles Avenue streetcar line, the 250-room luxury boutique hotel, housed in a former Masonic Temple building, will reflect the vibrant eclecticism of New Orleans and offer guests personalized, exemplary service.

The historic 1926 steel-framed brick and limestone building, designed by renowned architect Sam Stone Jr., and one of the citys earliest skyscrapers, is undergoing a complete internal transformation.  However, the buildings modern-Gothic and neo-classic profile, as well as many original architectural flourishes, will remain intact thanks to historic landmark guidelines and the restoration commitment by the Kimpton Group.

The hotels interior is designed by award-winning Cheryl Rowley Interior Design of Beverly Hills and reflects the history and intrigue of New Orleans.  After passing through the grand entrance arches, guests will be greeted by a magnificent lobby featuring Hotel Monacos signature steamer-trunk registration desk, a stunning seashell-encrusted fireplace and intimate sitting areas furnished with richly upholstered sofas, chaise lounges and ottomans of zebra-printed cowhide.  The deluxe guestrooms and suites reflect a tropical theme imbued with color, playfulness and comfort.  Plush, cocoon-like beds are topped with high-count linens and feature raffia headboards draped with soft netting.   Hand-stenciled furniture in African-inspired designs and rattan add exotic energy to the overall guestroom décor.

Located adjacent to the Hotel Monaco New Orleans will be an exciting restaurant and bar.  The restaurant is a collaboration of both Chef Susan Spicer of the local favorite, Bayona, and the Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group.  The restaurant will feature Spicers regional American cuisine. Live music will be performed in the restaurant bar.

Complimentary morning coffee, evening wine service and morning paper are all provided, as well as two-line phones, voicemail, 27 televisions and CD stereos.  The hotel features 24-hour room service, secretarial, business and concierge services, as well as a fitness center and several meeting rooms.  Two beautifully restored Masonic Lodges will offer a truly extraordinary meeting experience for larger groups.

Celebrating its 20-year anniversary in April 2001, the San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group is known for its collection of stylish boutique hotels that are coupled with fine chef-driven restaurants.  Kimpton Group transforms older, often historic, buildings into charming European-style accommodations and currently operates 34 hotels and 28 restaurants across the country and in Canada.

The Hotel Monaco New Orleans joins the other four-star Hotel Monacos located in San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Denver and Salt Lake City.
