John Richardson and Alie Smith Appointed to Corporate Positions with Pacifica Hotel Company

Santa Barbara, California - May 18, 2001 - Pacifica Hotel Company President Dale Marquis has announced the promotion of John Richardson to the newly created position of Corporate Director of Sales. He will be responsible for supervising and coordinating sales efforts within all 19 Pacifica Hotel Company (PHC) properties. 

Most recently, Richardson served as Director of Sales for Pacifica's Shelter Pointe Hotel & Marina in San Diego, California. Marquis stated,
"We are very excited to promote John from within to a corporate executive position. His comprehensive sales experience will continue to foster our company's growth and expansion." 
 

At this time, Richardson's office will remain in San Diego at the Shelter Pointe Resort, 1551 Shelter Island Drive, San Diego, California, 92106; telephone 619-221-8000, ex. 4115.

Prior to joining PHC last year, Richardson served as Regional Director of Sales for Tarsadia Hotels in San Diego. He has also worked in regional sales management posts with Trigild Hotels, Patriot Hotels and Vista Host Hotels.

From 1994-97, he was General Manager of the Del Mar (California) Hilton Hotel. His extensive hospitality industry experience includes sales training positions with Hilton Corporation and Holiday Inn Corporation. Richardson is a native of Chicago and attended the University of Chicago. 

Alie Smith will be responsible for supervising and conducting training in
core competencies (guest services, housekeeping, reservations, sales) within all 19 Pacifica Hotel Company (PHC) properties. Previously, Smith served as Director of Sales & Training for PHC. 

According to Marquis, "When Alie was named Director of Sales & Training in 1999, we had 15 hotels with 1,342 rooms. Today, we operate 19 properties with 1,573 rooms. We are pleased to have Alie focus exclusively on training to support our growth as well as our corporate commitment to training and promoting from within." 

Smith's own career with PHC epitomizes this corporate philosophy. She began her career with PHC in 1995 at the front desk of the Best Western Jamaica Bay Inn in Marina Del Rey, California. The talented Smith immediately advanced to Front Desk Manager, then General Manager, achieving the highest occupancy rates yet recorded at the property. From 1997-99, Smith served as Pacifica's Southern Area Manager, supervising operations and sales efforts in six Los Angeles regional properties. A native of New Jersey, Smith began her multi-faceted career as a theatre and television actress in New York City. In pursuit of entertainment industry advancement, she relocated to California and attended the University of California at Los Angeles.
