January 29, 2001 - The Asian American Hotel Owners
Association (AAHOA) is donating $25,001 to assist with relief programs
for victims of last Friday's massive earthquake in India. In keeping
with an Indian custom, the donation is not an even amount in order to bring
luck.
"Most
of our members are from the Gujarat region that was hardest hit by the
quake," said Chairman Bakulesh "Buggsi" Patel. "They have relatives
and friends in the area, so it's most appropriate for our association to
support the important disaster relief work being done by the BAPS Earthquake
Relief Fund."
"Our members have been fortunate to experience
first-hand the American dream of success, so we are pleased to give back
and help those who need so much assistance right now," added "Buggsi" Patel.
"We urge the Indian community, as well as all Americans, to be generous
in remembering the earthquake victims with their contributions."
