Dining room table and chair placement

Currently we spend many man-hours to set and reset our carpeted diningroom. We use an elaborate set of measurments and rods of various lengths to set the room so that tables are arranged with enough chair space for each occupant. Has anyone found a way to "mark" their diningroom so that constant measuring doesn't need to take place?
