Pam, you might have to ask your local state tax department about this since the rules may vary. In my opinion and from experience in the Charleston WV area, you do not have to charge a tax for a pet fee. If you make sure the rooms are being thoroughly cleaned of pet hair better than a normal checkout cleaning, then it is more like a service or damage fee and not a profit-making charge. Do not include it as part of the room charge; have it posted as an incidental or miscellaneous charge. If your local tax department insists in collecting a percentage, you should not have to collect any city/county occupancy taxes. Another reason to not include it in your room charge is so your chain would not collect its franchise fee on it. I hope this helps.
