Wow! is my first response to what you mentioned concerning the stress that goes along with mgrn hotels. And I am so sorry for the lost of your friend while on the job.
I am no authority on stress. What I do, is turn the situation around as if I am a doctor perforimng surgury. By that I look at what is the most bleeding situation, which requires my attention. Also I manage my staff so they can deal with the issues and the persons involved. I try not to chase down every issue but I make sure all issues are resolved.
I do meet and greet guest but mainly after I have coached my staff to handle the item. After all that is a big reason for them (staff) being here. Delegation is the key to stress management. By no means am I promoting running away from the problem. I can say to become a better manager means planning and seeing an issue through to completion. Share the golry, share the work!
